8x6 Sheds

An 8x6ft garden shed is one of the most popular sizes, because it offers functional storage without taking up too much space in the majority of UK gardens. In our range, you’ll find a huge variety of 8x6 or 6x8 sheds in wood, metal and plastic, with differing styles suited for unique purposes and price points catering to all budgets.
Why Choose an 8x6 Garden Shed?
An 8x6 shed (also known as an 8 x 6 ft shed) is one of the UK's most popular shed sizes, offering a balance of compact footprint and generous storage space. Whether you need a place for bikes, tools, or a small workshop, our 8x6 sheds provide durability and value for money.
Is an 8 x 6 storage shed big enough?
An 8 x 6 garden shed should be large enough to store a medium size family BBQ, 2-4 bicycles, a wheelbarrow, and a lawnmower. Small tools are best stored on wall hooks or shelves to save space. Depending on the volume of the items you are storing, this might even leave you with room for a work table for some DIY tasks.
While 8x6 sheds offer plentiful storage to meet the needs of most gardeners, they’re also not excessive in size or footprint and won’t take over your garden space. This means they cater well to the traditional storage-style shed that you see in gardens all across the UK.

Here are some of our most popular shed styles
All of our sheds are patio-friendly, perfect for placement on concrete, brick, or slabbed patio areas. As long as your patio is large enough for your chosen size of shed (we have some very large ones), you should be fine to commence with building.
Please bear in mind that if your patio is not completely level, an extra base may be required to give the shed a flat surface to stand on.
If you have wooden decking rather than a patio, check out this guide: Can I Put a Shed on Decking?
Need storage on a tighter budget? This range focuses on the essentials — practical space, sensible specs, and strong value. Even our lowest-priced wooden sheds still come with our 10-year guarantee, so you don’t have to compromise on peace of mind.

Usually, no. Most UK properties are allowed sheds as 'permitted developments' with no planning permission required, provided they are not placed in a front garden or exceed height limits. If you live in a listed property, a conservation area, or are unsure about boundary rules, please read our quick guide to shed planning permission to double-check before ordering.
When we say a 'base', we mean a surface that is:
- Flat (check with a spirit level)
- Solid (bricks, slabs, concrete, or a base kit. NOT soil, grass or loose gravel)
- With drainage (it doesn't have to be raised, but rainwater has to be able to leave the area.)
So yes, all sheds require a base.
It is important that a shed stands in a location where it will be able to easily remain upright without undue stress on the structure, and where it won't be absorbing water. Our wooden sheds all come with pressure treated floor bearers which raise the floor slightly above the ground, so you can place yours straight onto a level patio or reinforced decking without issue.
If your designated shed location is currently soft, you could level this out and use our Ecobase product to save you the work of landscaping.
The size of your shed depends on how you plan to use it. Whether you need space for tools, a workshop, or even a garden office, we offer sheds in a range of sizes to fit your space. Use our shed size guide to find the perfect match for your garden.
Choosing the Right 8x6 Shed for Your Garden
An 8x6 storage shed offers the perfect balance of compact footprint and generous internal space, making it one of the most popular garden shed sizes in the UK.
If you're shopping for an 8x6 wooden shed, you're likely looking for reliability, versatility, and long-term value. This size is ideal for gardeners and homeowners who need more than basic storage, but don’t want a shed that dominates their outdoor space.
Look for these features when choosing your 8x6 shed:
- Cladding type — Choose from overlap for low-cost storage, or tongue and groove for enhanced weather protection and rigidity.
- Adaptable layouts — Some models let you choose the position of your doors and windows for better access and natural light.
- Pressure-treated options — Extend the lifespan of your shed with added rot and insect resistance.
- Roof style — Pick an apex roof for extra internal height, or a pent roof for a sleek, space-saving design.
- Window choices — Go windowed for natural light, or windowless for private storage and better heat blocking.
- Size flexibility — Each model is available in multiple sizes, so if 8x6 isn’t quite right, you’ll find smaller and larger alternatives.
Will an 8x6 foot shed fit my garden?
An 8x6 storage shed gives you approximately 48 square feet of space. To accommodate this, your garden will require at least 96 square feet of unbuilt land in order to not require planning permission. Find out more in our guide to shed planning permission.Allotment Sheds
8x6 foot sheds are the maximum permitted size for an allotment garden. On a rented allotment, your shed should be a temporary structure only. Many of the sheds on this page are suited to this purpose, especially the metal and plastic options which are the easiest to assemble and disassemble.
