Take a look through our Master and Expert tongue and groove timber range. These sheds are long lasting wooden sheds, perfect for keen gardeners or growing families. We use the incredibly popular T&G construction for these two ranges, with each having their own set of features. With a fantastic scope of sizes available, we offer designs to fit any garden style or size.
The tongue and groove construction is a step up from the overlapping panel design. Thicker materials mean a much stronger fit for the unit as a whole. The design technique incorporates 11mm thick panels which interlock together. This interlocking design gives the unit it's strength and solidity, with the panels ensuring there is no rainwater entry as it runs down the side and not into the joints of the building. With different designs and features available, these are perfect buildings for DIY, with windowed options giving you further uses as a potting shed.
Garden Buildings Direct choose to opt for tongue and groove panels over shiplap cladding as this method of construction can help ensure you're purchasing a strong and dependable wooden workshop. Tongue and groove is where a short tongue is cut into the edge of one piece of timber. This section then joins to a corresponding groove cladding which is running along the length of the timber. The method of interlocking is what ensures the durability of the shed. This is why it is seen in so many styles of garden structure. Furthermore, as there are no gaps in between each piece of timber, your outdoor wooden building; no matter if a windowless shed, apex wooden workshop, or mini tongue and groove shed, is likely to be able to survive through the harshest of weather conditions.
One of our tongue and groove garden sheds could be ideal for using as bike sheds, tool sheds as well as storage sheds. The shed base is likely to be able to hold a great deal of weight. This, combined with a large amount of storage space, depending on the size of your pent garden or apex garden shed, makes the ideal outdoor garden building.
Our Expert tongue and groove pent and apex wooden shed range features T&G braced double doors. This ensures that the building has the biggest possible opening which makes manoeuvring goods in and out all that easier, making it ideal for those who are likely to be regularly using large objects such as bikes, lawn mowers and more garden tools. The bracing adds further structural integrity to the unit adding support across the building as a whole.
The Master tongue and groove selection offers a cheaper alternative to the Expert. The value for money outdoor garden building doesn't incorporate the braced double doors. However, for those looking for a quality tongue and groove shed at a more affordable price, this is the ideal range. Available as either a tongue and groove apex wooden shed or a tongue and groove pent wooden shed, there are designs to fit any kind of garden style, with windowed and windowless options giving versatile uses.
Overall, tongue and groove apex wooden sheds and pent sheds are a strong and durable shed suited to any type of garden. For more information regarding tongue and groove sheds take a look at our advanced guide to garden sheds.

Tongue and groove is a type of cladding whereby wooden panels are designed in order to be slotted together in a seamless manner. On each board, there’s a tongue (a thin extended lip of wood) and a groove (a thin cut-out in the wood). The panels are joined together by slipping the tongue of one board into the groove of the next.
Our tongue and groove storage sheds start from just £169, while our larger tongue and groove sheds that can also be used as workshops start from £388.
Tongue and groove boards lock into each other and the boards are held together in place naturally by the two boards either side, like a jigsaw puzzle. Overlap boards go on top of each other to create a panel effect.
Because of these differences in cladding, tongue and groove sheds generally represent the more durable and weather-resistant choice of the two.
Generally, tongue and groove sheds have thicker walls and provide more all around protection against the elements than overlap sheds.
Of course! Tongue and groove panelling is absolutely designed for outdoor use - including on our wooden sheds.
