16x8 Sheds UK
Garden Buildings Direct is a leading manufacturer of garden sheds, including our 16x8 shed range. With a number of features and design styles to choose from, we’re sure to offer a 16x8 garden shed that's perfect for you.
Choose between apex or pent roofs, with an apex roof offering a traditional aesthetic and extra internal headroom, while a pent roof highlights a more modern, stylish look with a gently sloping incline.
Choose between windowed or windowless 16x8 sheds, with a windowed shed offering additional natural sunlight - excellent to improve visibility when performing DIY tasks. Meanwhile, the windowless shed alternative offers additional security and privacy for your valuables stored within.

Choosing the Right Type of Shed for You
Here are some of our most popular shed styles
All of our sheds are patio-friendly, perfect for placement on concrete, brick, or slabbed patio areas. As long as your patio is large enough for your chosen size of shed (we have some very large ones), you should be fine to commence with building.
Please bear in mind that if your patio is not completely level, an extra base may be required to give the shed a flat surface to stand on.
If you have wooden decking rather than a patio, check out this guide: Can I Put a Shed on Decking?
Need storage on a tighter budget? This range focuses on the essentials — practical space, sensible specs, and strong value. Even our lowest-priced wooden sheds still come with our 10-year guarantee, so you don’t have to compromise on peace of mind.
If you need to budget carefully, our selection of cheap sheds is where you want to look.
FAQs
Usually, no. Most UK properties are allowed sheds as 'permitted developments' with no planning permission required.
Exceptions (where you MIGHT need planning permission) include:
- Listed properties and locations of 'outstanding natural beauty'
- Structures exceeding 2.5 metres height on the eaves or, if placed near a boundary, 2.5 metres total height (our sheds don't exceed this)
- Sheds placed in the front garden
- Sheds exceeding more than 50% of the garden space
There are some other rules, so check out our guide to planning permission for sheds to get a full understanding.
Since 2020, we no longer have a physical showroom and all trade is conducted online. Our website shows previews of every size of building with precise measurements to make it easy for you to make an informed buying decision.
When you visit a product page, changing between sizes will immediately show you what the exact size looks like.
Each shed material has its own pros and cons and your decision should be based on how you intend to use the building.
Wooden sheds
Wooden sheds are the most popular type of shed, and for good reason.
- Pros:
- They look great and can be painted and customised
- They are very durable against wind and rain.
- Wood is naturally insulating against heat and cold.
- Cons:
- They are flammable. Not ideal for welding or other blowtorch work.
- They require regular maintenance, including treatment to prevent rot and insect infestation.
There are multiple styles of wooden garden shed available, including log cabin sheds. All our BillyOh wooden sheds are manufactured at our purpose-built site in the UK and come with a 10-year guarantee as standard.
Plastic sheds
Don’t underestimate the practical benefits of a plastic shed. They can serve you well for both storage and workshop uses.
- Pros:
- Plastic sheds are relatively inexpensive.
- Low maintenance and long lasting.
- Quality models offer solid durability.
- Not flammable.
- Cons:
- Difficult to customise without damage.
- Can’t be painted.
- Colour might fade with time.
Metal sheds
For a low cost, low maintenance garden building, look no further than a galvanised metal shed.
- Pros:
- Metal sheds are cheaper than wood and plastic sheds.
- They can be painted with specialist metal paint.
- Not much maintenance to do.
- Galvanised models are resistant to rust as long as the coating stays intact.
- Cons:
- Can be difficult to customise with add-ons.
- Metal sheds become hot in the summer.
- At less than 1mm thick, they can dent with impact.
We don’t currently offer a shed installation service. Our garden sheds are supplied for self-assembly and include full fitting instructions.
Delivery is available within Great Britain. Delivery charges can apply depending on your postcode zone — please see our delivery information page for full details.
When we say a 'base', we mean a surface that is:
- Flat (check with a spirit level)
- Solid (bricks, slabs or concrete. NOT soil, grass or gravel)
- With drainage (it doesn't have to be raised, but rainwater has to be able to leave the area.)
So yes, all sheds require a base.
It is important that a shed stands in a location where it will be able to easily remain upright without undue stress on the structure, and where it won't be absorbing water. Our wooden sheds all come with pressure treated floor bearers which raise the floor slightly above the ground, so you can place yours straight onto a level patio or reinforced decking without issue.
If your designated shed location is currently soft, you could level this out and use our Ecobase product to save you the work of landscaping.
The size of your shed depends on how you plan to use it. Whether you need space for tools, a workshop, or even a garden office, we offer sheds in a range of sizes to fit your space. Use our shed size guide to find the perfect match for your garden.
Our sheds are designed to be weather-resistant for UK conditions when correctly installed on a solid, level base and maintained as recommended. Protection varies by material and specification, so always check the product details.
- Wooden sheds: fitting the roof felt correctly (no gaps) is essential. Timber will naturally expand and contract, so keeping edges sealed helps prevent water ingress.
- Metal sheds: made from rust-resistant materials and designed for low maintenance, but correct assembly and anchoring helps keep them secure in high winds.
- Plastic sheds: low maintenance and good for damp conditions, with water resistance depending on the design and door thresholds.
If you need storage designed specifically for keeping contents dry, see our waterproof outdoor storage range.
Metal and Plastic Sheds: Yes. Because these materials are exceptionally lightweight, anchoring is essential. Without being secured to a solid foundation, these structures can be easily moved or tipped by strong gusts of wind. Most of our models include foundation kits or pre-drilled holes to simplify this process.
Wooden Sheds: Highly Recommended. While wooden sheds are heavier and sturdier, they are not immune to the "sail effect." High winds can exert hundreds of pounds of pressure against the side walls, leading to sliding, tipping, or structural "racking" (tilting).
- Heavyweight Sheds: Even for large, premium sheds, anchoring ensures the building stays square on its foundation, preventing doors from sticking and joints from loosening over time.
- Overlap & Small Sheds: For smaller sheds or those with lightweight cladding, anchoring is essential as they lack the mass to resist uplift during storms.
16x8 Wooden Sheds
Our 16 x 8 wooden sheds are designed to last for years to come. Choose between tongue and groove or overlap cladding - both of which offer a high level of weather resistance and waterproofing. Our 16x8 sheds are also incredibly versatile and can be applied to a number of uses. From workshops to tall stores, there's bound to be a style for you.
Choice Of Roof Designs
Our wood sheds also come in three distinct roof shapes: pent, apex, and reverse apex. For a modern style, a pent roof offers a contemporary silhouette whereas, the alternatives tend to look more traditional. However, the innovative design allows for excellent runoff no matter which one you choose.
Quality Timber Products
Our range of garden storage options come in either overlap or tongue and groove cladding types to suit your budget. All models, however, utilise robust framing and excellent materials carefully pre-assembled by our skilled craftsmen. Simply follow the final assembly instructions to construct your purchase upon delivery.
Garden Sheds For Bikes, Tools, and More
With wide-opening double doors, our 16 x 8 wooden garden sheds often find use as potting sheds, somewhere to keep bikes secure, a space for garden equipment and even garden furniture, and workshops. But the possibilities are endless. Suit yours to your garden setting then customise it with internal shelving and gorgeous paint colours available as customisable extras.
