What Can Our Garden Rooms Provide?
A Place to Be Social
If you want a place to wine and dine, or maybe want to sip at a pint from your very own garden pub, there’s nowhere better to put it than the comfort and separation of an outdoor room. With the blank canvas of our rooms, you can decorate in the way you choose and create the social environment you’ve always been dreaming of. Keep everyone cosy with the comforting features of an insulated building. If you need a hand with decorating, consult our garden room ideas guide.
An Office Space
The separation between outdoor room and home can be especially effective at creating an isolated, purpose-built office space. An office is ideal for those who run their own business or need a secluded place to really focus. They’re equally good at providing a practical place to work, whether that’s a salon or studio environment, and we’ve had many customers successfully launch their own beauty business from their room or cabin.
Extra Room & Extra Storage
No matter what you want to add to your home, the space a garden room offers is the ideal place to situate it. Perhaps you’ve always dreamed of having a haven for exercise on your doorstep, and want to create a dedicated garden gym.
All our buildings are designed to be accessible, with double doors built-in as standard and a huge range of sizes to cater to all gardens.
What Types of Garden Studios are Available?
We have a range of buildings on offer, with each one designed to fill a different niche - whether that’s size, style, or functionality.
Our insulated garden buildings, featuring double-glazed windows and double doors (or French doors), provide comfortable use even in harsh weather. Their designs are insulated by standard, with insulation threaded into the timber panels used on the wall, so there’s no additional costs for insulation or installing it.
We also have a premium SIP Building in our range, the BillyOh Studi. The Studi is the best we have to offer here at Garden Buildings Direct, and as a SIP Building, it comes insulated by design. The Studi is constructed by layered panels that surround insulation in sheets of weather-resistant wood with double-glazed glass and decorated with uPVC to create the ideal garden studio.
How Can I Use a Garden Room?
Our garden rooms are suitable for a huge range of uses no matter the size or the type of model. That being said, some buildings are better suited for some uses than others. Here are some example uses and the building model we recommend.
- One of the most popular uses of our outdoor rooms is as a office space. Adding a workspace to your garden is an effective way to separate your home and working life if your place of work is your home. They’re also a great place to start your own business from, acting as a base of operations without the need to rent premises or take up space indoors. The Kent is excellent as a home office (it even says it in the name) due to its spacious models with divided internal space. For something that’s even larger and can accommodate lots of people at once, take a look at the Fraya Max.
- Similarly, if you have a beauty or therapeutic business or job, an outdoor room can be a great place to set up a studio or salon. A dedicated building offers a quiet and peaceful environment that you can set up precisely as you need, as well as adding an extra touch of professionalism. Many customers have favoured the Dorset for creating their own studios but, if you want to ensure you can use it all-year-round, we recommend the insulated Canvas.
- By far the most common use of our rooms is simply as a place to relax - some extra livable space in your home where you can get away from everyday life. When using a building this way, you can set it up however you’d like. Add a table so you can eat with friends, or bring in sofas where you can decompress. Whatever your vision is, the Fraya is an open and inviting building with a modern feel.
How Do We Manufacture Our Buildings?
Each garden building is manufactured by skilled craftsmen with the experience needed to build robust and reliable structures capable of withstanding even the UK’s most extreme weather conditions. So from our home office pod down to our smaller models, our garden rooms are designed with structural integrity in mind. From the base to the cladding and roof, you can be safe in the knowledge that your garden building will last.
All our self-manufactured garden rooms come with a 10-year guarantee against rot, decay, and insect infestation (15-years for pressure-treated models).
Using high-quality European-sourced timber, fitted together with strong, weather-resistant tongue and groove cladding, our garden office buildings are built to stand the test of time. You can also opt to have your garden office pressure treated. This will extend the lifespan of your garden room and reduce the need for wood treatment and maintenance.
Does a Garden Room Need Planning Permission?
All our garden rooms are designed to be planning-friendly and have been designed with planning laws in mind. A building shouldn't require planning permission, so long as it abides by these rules:
- It isn’t intended for permanent use as a residential building.
- It isn’t larger than 50% of your garden.
- Isn’t built past the front wall of your house.
- Isn’t higher at the ridge height than 4m.
- Isn’t higher at the eaves height than 2.5m.
If it is within those guidelines your building should fall under 'permitted development' and not require planning regulations. This provides peace of mind to build and use your building as you please.
