Wooden Garden Storage
Wooden storage is a traditional solution for keeping items safe. Extremely versatile, wooden storage comes in a huge variety of sizes and can be adapted for all kinds of uses. The classic look of a wooden building is also one that is loved in gardens throughout the UK, and seamlessly blends in next to fencing or garden sheds.
All our wooden storage buildings have been designed and manufactured by our very own teams to ensure they deliver quality storage and fantastic value for money. Our tongue and groove buildings also come with a 10-year guarantee that protects against rot, decay, and insect infestation - so you’re getting storage you can rely on.
Metal Garden Storage
Nothing says security like metal does. Metal storage is ideal if you’re looking to keep your items super-safe. The robust and resilient surfaces of metal mean they can’t easily be broken into, creating storage that naturally stands up to crafty thieves or curious wildlife.
Our metal units come in a range of sizes, all the way up to large metal garages that are ideal for vehicle storage. Plus, many of our metal units are made from galvanised steel which ensures weather and rust-resistance for long-lasting use.
Plastic Garden Storage
Versatile, adaptable and easy to care for, plastic storage provides a simple solution to any tidiness problems. Modern plastic materials are built to last and have a level of in-built weather resistance. Their flexible materials mean they can often withstand heavy winds without much fuss, while also being easy to clean and keep in great condition - only requiring a quick clean with soapy water.
How Can You Use Garden Storage?
The versatility of storage units means they can be used for a variety of different purposes:
Bike Storage
A bike or motorbike is an expensive and valuable possession and, if you use it to commute, can be an essential part of your daily life. Keeping it safe and protected at home needs to be something you can have peace of mind with - which is where bike storage comes in. Providing the ideal place to keep your bike - or bikes - these units are built specifically to protect your bicycles when they’re not in use.
Bin Storage
Bin storage is a simple way to improve your quality of life and fend off wild animals looking to get into your rubbish. Easily and efficiently hiding the bins from sight while keeping them safe and sound, our bin storage units are designed for the dimensions of conventional UK wheelie bins - and can even double up as storage for composters!
Tool Storage
Keeping your garden clean and tidy is one thing, but doing so probably requires power tools, hand tools and garden equipment like lawnmowers. Garden tool and equipment storage provides the ideal place to keep these when they’re not in use, keeping them out of sight and safe from prying eyes and unreliable weather. A complete shed is an alternative solution to keeping your tools and equipment safe.
Log Stores
Robust outdoor units make for the perfect place to store logs. So whether you’re saving logs up for the winter, a log store is a valuable garden storage solution for any household. Our log stores feature reliable, covered storage to keep your logs protected from the rain and ensuring they stay dry and ready for burning.
Storage Benches
Bring some extra utility to your storage addition with a storage bench. Use as a comfortable bench when the sun is out, and as reliable storage for cushions, toys and more, a bench with undercroft storage lets you improve your outdoor living setup while keeping your garden nice and tidy. Storage boxes can also be used in this fashion.
Does Garden Storage Require Maintenance?
This depends on the material the storage unit is made from. Plastic and Metal generally require very little work to keep them ticking over. A simple clean can often be enough to prevent buildups of dirt.
Wooden storage will require regular maintenance to keep it in good condition, including reapplying coats of wood paint or treatment. If it becomes damaged, you will also need to repair this by patching up the woodwork or fasteners. However, the advantage of wood is that these repairs can be performed rather simply - serious damage to metal or plastic units is typically much more difficult to fix.
No matter the material, you should inspect your storage unit regularly - at least once a month during autumn and winter - to ensure it is in good condition.
Garden Storage Organization Tips
Once you have chosen the right garden storage solution for your needs, it is important to organize it effectively so that you can easily find what you need when you need it. Here are a few tips for organizing your garden storage:
- Group similar items together. This will make it easier to find what you need when you're looking for it. For example, you might group all of your gardening tools together, all of your lawn care supplies together, and all of your holiday decorations together.
- Use labels. Labelling your storage bins and shelves will help you to keep everything organized and easy to find. You can use simple labels, such as "Gardening Tools" or "Holiday Decorations", or you can use more detailed labels that list the specific items in each container.
- Use vertical space. Vertical space is often underutilized in garden storage sheds and cupboards. You can maximize your storage space by using shelves, hooks, and other wall-mounted storage solutions.

BillyOh Mini Keeper Overlap Pent Store Shed
Designed specifically as a solution to bike and equipment storage, the Mini Keeper Pent Bike Store offers cost-effective and secure storage with a minimal footprint.
A garden log store can be a space-saving solution to having logs all over the place. But, with a waist-height store, you’ll only be able to use it for that purpose. Plus, you may have to search around for a large enough, or covered option. Instead, why not check out our range of BillyOh log storage solutions?
Our BillyOh garden storage sheds offer high-quality materials and construction at an accessible price point. Plus, unlike when building your own shed, we can offer our BillyOh 10-year guarantee against rot, decay, and insect infestation. But if you want to read more about whether it’s cheaper to build your own shed, check out our how-to guides.
But with sturdy and weather-resistant tongue and groove sentry boxes starting from just £209, we don’t think we’ll be beaten on price!
Even our larger storage sheds shouldn’t require planning permission as they do not exceed:
- A max height of 4m for a dual pitched roof
- A max eaves height of 2.5m
However, you will need to make sure that your storage shed isn’t:
- Larger than 50% of your garden area
- Being built past the front edge of your house
- Higher than 2.5m if within 2m of a boundary
If you satisfy all of those, then your storage shed shall fall under ‘permitted development’ (without needing planning permission). This can vary by area, though, so be sure to check with your local council if you have any concerns. And for more, check out our guide to planning permission.
Luckily, even our largest garden storage sheds come as pre-cut tongue and groove panels. Simply follow the assembly instructions provided with your order and you and a friend (with some basic tools) can have your garden storage unit assembled in no time.
Our storage sheds are available in either wood (tongue and groove or overlap clad), plastic, or metal. Wooden storage sheds offer a traditional-looking design and boast the potential to be utilised in a number of different ways beyond storage, such as a workshop. Metal sheds are incredibly heavy-duty, thanks to reinforced galvanised steel. They also offer maximum privacy and security with windowless designs. Plastic sheds are long-lasting with a uniquely modern design that will compliment the vast majority of gardens.
Often cited as one of the biggest advantages of plastic storage sheds, they pose few maintenance requirements as they don’t corrode, rot or develop rust. As a general rule, the main upkeep for a plastic shed involves scrubbing it with warm soapy water to make it look as good as new. With this in mind, you can expect a plastic shed to comfortably last for at least 20 years, and well beyond this timeframe.
Nobody wants a storage box full of essential gardening tools, cushions, toys and so on. And whilst the vast majority of outdoor storage boxes sold by retailers are water-resistant, waterproofing is hard to guarantee. However, many of our BillyOh wooden storage sheds come with options for things like more heavy-duty waterproof roofing and thicker flooring to protect even further against damp. The interlocking panels of our metal and plastic sheds also protect them against even the harshest weather elements and water ingress.
If you want to keep your outdoor furniture looking pristine for as long as possible, then keeping it protected from rain and frost is highly recommended.
This can either be achieved through buying a cover large enough to entirely shelter all necessary furniture or through a garden storage unit. Garden Buildings Direct offers many storage solutions which can comfortably house your furniture and much more!
Outside of having individual covers for cushions which can be taken on and off as required, the most suitable solution is to merely move your cushions on and off your patio as necessary, placing them in your new BillyOh storage unit during times of extreme weather such as heavy rain or biting cold.
Although our BillyOh garden storage sheds feature tightly interlocking panels, space for heavy-duty locks and even windowless options, security will always still be a risk. We’d advise against storing personal or valuable items. Also, never store damp items in your shed as this can form and damp in wooden sheds. For more on how to damp-proof your shed, check out this guide.
