It’s a good idea to line the inside of your wooden planter to keep the compost moist. This also reduces the frequency with which you need to water your plants, as the water is retained.
Many materials can be used as liners. Recycle old plastic bags, newspapers, and compost bags to use. So long as water can drain out (you might need to create small holes), any of these options can work!

Fir is the perfect choice for outdoor use because it is naturally resistant to rot, preventing your planter box from quickly becoming damaged simply for being outside. The same applies to its aptitude to remain strong when wet, allowing you to be confident your planter won't crack. There's no need to hastily bring it indoors when the skies open - the fir is ready for the weather!
As well as this, we apply a stain finish in the shade 'heartwood' to give this wood planter its rustic colour and provide an extra layer of protection to the wood. This helps to make it the heavy-duty planter that it is.
A wooden trough planter must allow the water to drain from the soil, so the roots of your plants can breathe. That's why the Heather planter has built-in drainage holes. It makes drainage an effortless process, helping your plants to thrive.
Our fir wood planter is strong and protected against mould and dampness, so it requires very little maintenance.
The only care we highly recommend is simply adding a lining inside the planter. This could be a bin liner or an old plastic bag, so long as it acts as a barrier between the soil and the wood. Just be sure to poke some holes in the lining so the water can still drain out of the planter, and you'll be ready to go!
