FAQs
Our BillyOh wooden playhouses all feature the same high-quality European sourced timber and sturdy interlocking tongue and groove panels. But if we had to pick some of our favourite wooden playhouses to get the ball rolling, they’d be:
This two storey wooden cottage-style playhouse will be sure to let your kids imagination run wild. With it's strong tongue & groove construction and the additional bunk, it offers 2 floors of play potential.
The Lollipop wooden tower playhouse provides a fantastic space for children to play in. Optional extras such as the slide further enhance its appeal. With its tongue and groove construction, it’s guaranteed to be enjoyed for many years to come!
If your playhouse has a raised platform (such as a tower playhouse or a two-storey playhouse with an internal bunk) there is the possibility that your local authority will require it to have planning permission. You can reduce this possibility by making sure that anyone on the raised areas can't look over the fence into your neighbour's property. However you should consult your local planning authority to be sure before you make a purchase.
There are other rules that can cause you to need planning permission, including:
- The location of the structure in your property (if it's in the front garden, for instance)
- If it causes more than half your land outside the house to be taken up by buildings
- If it exceeds height limits (ours don't)
- If there are other restrictions placed on your land
Check out this resource for more information on planning permission for garden playhouses.
There are two answers to this. First, if you’ve bought a tower playhouse with a slide, you could use the underneath space as storage or even a garage for kids' cars. On the other hand you might think about installing a foundation or base> under your playhouse. We’d advise against building your playhouse directly on to grass as it can lead to undue pressure on the structure as well as water ingress, damp, and rot.
If you wish to fit a base under your playhouse, then a timber sub-floor, existing patio, paving slabs, concrete slab, or gravel and plastic foundation all work. For more, read this post on preparing your garden for an outdoor building.
