Record Holding Bugs!
Insects are fascinating creatures that captivate the minds of children and adults alike. They are by far the most numerous animals on the planet, with an estimated six million or more individual species. Insects can be found in nearly every environment in the world, from scorching desert sands to vast ocean waters. They can be beneficial or harmful to humans. For example, species such as the ladybug keep pests under control in gardens, but other species, such as termites, can ruin log cabins and other wood homes. Some insects, like scorpions and tarantulas, are kept as pets. These arachnids are venomous and should be handled carefully, or not at all. Venomous insects can also be found in your own backyard, and caution should be used when reaching around dark corners of metal sheds and other storage areas, to avoid the bite of a black widow spider, or the sting of a bee, especially if you're allergic. Although some insects are deadly, most are completely harmless to humans, and are fun to observe. Below you'll find a list of some record-holding bugs, and websites where you can see them and read more about them. Have fun investigating these creepy crawlies!
