How to Build a Playhouse
The most important part of constructing any garden building is making sure you have a flat level and solid base. Once you have a solid level base to build your playhouse upon we recommend that you acquire a general construction kit consisting of; hammer, powered screw driver, drill, step ladder and sharp knife. BillyOh playhouses come complete with a full fixing kit including all screws, nails, door fixings and instructions that are sufficient to assemble the playhouse with.
A helpful hint if the space is available is to lay out all the panels in the correspondent places around your work area, ready to just be lifted and secured in place.
Lay Out the Playhouse Floor
The instructions will show you how to construct the playhouse floor is necessary. Once the wooden playhouse floor is constructed lay it on the solid level base. If the playhouse has multiple floors lay them out in position. In most cases there is no need to fix multiple floors together at this point.
Attach the Plain Gable and the Side Panels
The Plain Gable is then fixed to one of the side panels with screws. In this case the playhouse has two Window Side Panels. Do not fix the playhouse side and gable to the floor at this point. Tip: Pilot drill all screw holes before fixing.
Attaching the Adjacent Side Panel and Door Gable
In the same manner as fixing the first Window Side Panel and Plain Gable of the kids playhouse the adjacent Window Side Panel and Door Gable are attached. Always remember to pilot drill all of the fixing points to make sure the wood does not split.
Fixing the Doors To The Building
Once the Door Gable is in place on the wooden playhouse the Doors are then attached to the building. Note: There will be a gap around the playhouse doors to remove the finger trapping hazard and is required for EN71 certification for childrens playhouses.
Fixing the Playhouse Roof
At this point it is imperative to square up the playhouse. The roof panels are nailed to the sides of the wooden playhouse. Once this is done the playhouse walls can be nailed to the wooden playhouse floor so it is very important to square up the building.
Felting the Roof
The Playhouse roof is then finished by tacking felt to it in strips, covering the roof panels. Make sure the top piece of roofing material overlaps the lower sections. Do not lean on the roof. When trimming the felt use a sharp knife and be very careful.
Finishing Touches
Finally the Fascia Boards, Finials, Cover Strips (where applicable) and additional elements such as Window Glazing, Window Crosses, Window Boxes and Shutters are fixed in place to the timber playhouse. Now the playhouse needs to be treated or painted to finish it off.
